Project Description
THE MISSION
Breaking the cycle of poverty to provide a better future for children.
BUILD UP KIDS is a scholarship program that funds school tuition for talented children from Lavender High to give them a chance to attend better-resourced schools. Giving children the opportunity to a better education opens the door to explore the world behind their hometowns. Supporting children every step of the way makes great future adults, with the ability to make their dreams come true.
THE STORY
Every child – no matter where it comes from deserves the best education and support it can get. Unfortunately, not everyone is born in a country where mental education, health systems, or even sports education can be taken for granted. In these countries, education is only accessible for kids with a wealthy background. Dealing with poverty, a high crime rate, teenage pregnancies, as well as many other obstacles education is not affordable or even possible. This builds a barrier for most of the population which isn’t easy to cross.
We envision a world without barriers. A place for kids where education comes first, no matter their background. With passion and hope for a better future, we create different learning opportunities. Classes, sports education, IT knowledge and mentoring help children find their path for the future. Volunteers spend their time making a difference in the lives of countless children by participating to realize the vision.
WHERE?
The Programm is situated in Lavender Hill, Kapstadt. Right now, Lavender hill is a place of hope, yet little opportunity.
Those from low-income families struggle to get a quality education. Therefore, not many young people dare to dream about a future involving attending a university and to better their family’s lives.
For this reason, an often broken journey through school, interrupted by different obstacles like irregular attendance, teenage pregnancy or violence are the normality of Lavender Hill.
This leads to an unsafe environment full of gang violence, which makes it even harder to concentrate on school and education. And the vicious cycle continues.
We strive to break this cycle by starting to teach the importance of education and giving, little by little, more children the chance to grow.
